Code Push Window

The code push scheduled for today will be starting shortly. There is little-to-no expected downtime. The patches being pushed this time around are on this code tour.

A note: any users who have enabled journal-styled icon pages will have that feature turned off as a result of one of the bug fixes. You can turn it back on right away, though! It's under Journal Icons Style on the Display tab in Settings.

EDIT: Some folks who are using certain Dreamwidth-native styles may have some odd display issues with the custom-styled icon pages. It's a bug! A fix is in the works, and will be live as soon as it's been tested. Should be fixed now! Comment if you continue to have trouble.

OK so I wrote a thing for anyone wanting to try customizing their icons page or fixing stuff that is wonky.

I'm terrible at explanations and will probably be editing it extensively over time, but I hope it gives people a general idea of how things work if they're like me and have compulsive urges to hit stuff until it works style ALL the things.

One of our styles team members is working on getting the icon page fixed up, and hopefully the code will be live tonight or tomorrow. Thanks for your willingness to help, though! I know I certainly appreciate it. :)

You look like you're new-ish to Dreamwidth, so welcome! Your talents would likely be well-appreciated over in [site community profile] dw_styles, if that's your thing. :)

Ayo, I was here before the mass exodus of rpers in Dec 2011! 8| That comm could be of interest however so I'll look into it when more awake.

Cool tho that some fixes are coming. It was jarring to see a mass of raw, unstyled lists instead of a neat icon page... hence me going overboard with customizing and actually using this feature when I was certain I wouldn't. gj guys.

Don't mind me! I never got the hang of 2012, and it's already 2013. I didn't mean any insult: I just can't process dates sometimes.

It is perfectly legit to go overboard when it is something you are passionate about! That's why we're here in the first place.

Naw man, we're cool. I don't have a sufficiently "mad/disappoint" icon that's also sufficiently not serious, so if I came off as super passive-aggressive, that wasn't intended. Saïx makes everything sound jerky and like words I'm not going to use here.

Both users are using custom styles so I don't think we can fix these. The problem someone noticed was specific to Hibiscus only.

So I'm the person who screwed up (and is now fixing) some of the icon pages - I just wanted to say that this is a great intro for custom-layout designers (or people looking to tweak their custom layouts :)

The use of fixed widths, however, doesn't play well with the official layouts (all fluid-width) - and the 'secret' to multicolumns is to set .icon to 50% width (or 33% if you want three columns). My flaw was failing to clear alternating rows, which meant long text on icons was causing the floats to get 'caught' on each other.

Regardless, I'd totally recommend posting this to [site community profile] dw_styles for all the custom style authors and users!

Ooh, thanks for the tip. I'll add that to the guide somewhere. I've no idea how I got mine to work with three columns; it just kind of accidentally happened. /o/

... You ask me to participate in community things and yet I like sitting in my corner of the internet where no one notices me, so we'll see.
